Who We Are

Logan Angels is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to assisting quality startup businesses access capital and the mentoring vital to building a strong, successful business.

Based in Logan since 2019, the Logan Angels meet bi-monthly and hear entrepreneurs from all over Australia pitch their businesses.

Our committee is made up of:

President – James Stokes

The Managing Director and Founder of Stokes Lawyers, James is a leading private and commercial lawyer in Logan. He is a chartered Tax Advisor with the Tax Institute of Australia and a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in Business Law.

James is a director of Rivermount Education Limited and the Economics and Law Research Institute Limited. He is also the consulting General Manager of WillPoint, Australia’s leading provider of death and probate notification and will locator services.

James is heavily involved in the Logan Business Community – serving on the committee of the Logan Chamber of Commerce Inc since 2016 and is currently Vice President. He was an inaugural director of Invest Logan – Logan City Council’s investment entity.

In 2016 James founded Men’s Legal Service – a not for profit law firm and continues to serve on its board. In all things James is supported by his wonderful family.

Secretary – Brad Apps

The Founder, Director and CEO of ECConnect, Brad has around two decades of experience in the IT and telecommunications industries. He specializes in B2B systems integration, management strategy, business development, sales and marketing and software development.

In 2017 Brad co-founded The Logan Startup Hub, which was the first co-working space ever in Logan City. Here, he was able to build his passion for helping local solo businesses and up and coming innovators and entrepreneurs.

Brad is a program facilitator for Startup Onramp and works closely with INNOV8 Logan to improve conditions for tech startups and disruptive innovations in Logan City.

By his side is his lovely wife and fellow director and CFO, Joanna Apps.

Treasurer – Natasha Hobson

The Owner and Director of Alita Dental, Natasha is a leading member of the Logan Business Community.

Natasha’s biggest passion is helping people improve their lives. She is pleased to do this in the provision of quality healthcare at her dental clinic and the provision of outstanding training and education to dental assistants through the Australian Academy of Dental Assisting. She is also a director of Men’s Legal Service.

She strives to improve the situation for business in Logan by serving on the board of the Logan Chamber of Commerce (including serving as president for two years), assisting the Tourism Advisory Group for Logan City Council and serving on the Logan Community Policing Board.

She frequently volunteers at high schools in Logan to assist students to gain skills for better outcomes after school and assists numerous community organisations. She spends her spare time with her husband and son.


Objectives & Purpose

The following objectives are those proposed to be set out in the Constitution of the future Logan Angels incorporated entity.

Logan Angels is established for the purposes of:

  • Encouraging and fostering entrepreneurship generally and in particular in the Logan area; and
  • Integrating and creating connections with relevant individuals and organisations to attract innovative thinkers and entrepreneurial business ventures to the Logan region; and
  • Providing a community voice to advocate for entrepreneurship and innovative activities in the Logan area and communicating with Logan City Council, Innov8 Logan and/or other stakeholders as appropriate; and
  • Gathering and disseminating educational information on entrepreneurship, innovation and Angel Investing; and
  • Facilitating angel investment opportunities for innovative business ventures; and
  • Providing a collegiate forum for members interested in making angel investments to facilitate and support their consideration and assessment of such investment opportunities.

To achieve these purposes, Logan Angels will hold regular forums, debate relevant topics, disseminate information, provide general advice, provide access to networks, affiliate with other like-minded organisations and assist individuals and/or organisations dealing with or engaged in entrepreneurship and innovation.


Code of Conduct

We, the members of Logan Angels, in recognition of the importance of our activities and investment activity in affecting the livelihoods of others, and in accepting a personal obligation to our peers and the communities in which we act, do hereby commit ourselves to the highest ethical and professional conduct and agree that every member of our community is expected to comply with this Code of Conduct.

A member shall, in respect of any angel investment, or related activity in which the member is an actual or prospective investor or advisor, comply with the following standards of conduct:

  • Members shall act with honour, integrity, dignity, diligence and in good faith in order to merit the trust of their peers and of the community.
  • Members shall act with honesty, equity and without discrimination towards all individuals in the community.
  • Members have an obligation to be ethical in judgement and actions.
  • Members shall not take improper advantage of their position as an actual or prospective investor, or advisor.
  • Members shall, where relevant, take reasonable steps to inform themselves, their peers, their portfolio companies and their advisors, of the social, environmental, economic and other possible consequences which may arise from their actions.
  • Members shall not make improper use of information acquired as an actual or prospective investor, or advisor.
  • Members shall promptly and properly manage any conflict of interests which may arise.
  • Confidential information received by members in the course of considering, making, or advising on an angel investment remains the property of the person or company from which it was obtained and it is improper for the members to disclose, or allow to be disclosed that confidential information, unless that disclosure has been authorised by that company or person from whom the information is provided, or is required by law.
  • Members shall not engage in conduct likely to bring discredit upon their angel investments, their peers, or the Association.
  • Members have an obligation, at all times, to comply with the spirit, as well as the letter, of the law and with the principles of this Code. Members shall not assist in or induce a breach of this Code and shall support those who seek to uphold the Code if called upon, or in a position to do so.
